Ah, the atmosphere: The hotel has informed us that they will be 100% smoke-free, including in guest rooms, by the time of FenCon V.

Free Comic Book Day logo

Up, up, and away! Join us on Saturday, May 3rd, in Dallas for CAPE! It's a Free Comic Book Day event featuring writers, artists, and free comics plus too much cool stuff to list here. We'll be there to spread the word about FenCon so come join us in celebrating FBCD at CAPE, ASAP.

Congratulations! We just found out that Jay Lake, our 2008 writers workshop instructor, is a finalist for the 2007 Sidewise Award for Best Long-Form Alternate History. Good luck to Jay (and all the other finalists). The winners will be announced in Denver at the 2008 World Science Fiction Convention.

Attention Writers: FenCon's popular writers workshop hosted by Jay Lake has only a few spots remaining. We'll take your membership forms and payments online or by mail. This always sells out quickly and with Jay Lake as instructor this year will be no exception.

FenCon memberships make excellent Mother's Day gifts.

Ooh, pretty: Check out our art show page for details on how you can participate in our fourth annual art show and auction. Hurry, space is going quickly.

Salud!: FenCon is thrilled to announce that Howard Waldrop has accepted our invitation to be Toastmaster for FenCon V. This is a rare North Texas appearance by this Lone Star legend. Learn more on our guests and program participants page.

Join us: Want to be a part of our celebration of 50 years of science fiction conventions in Texas? Do you love science fiction, music, science, fandom, parties, or books? Then you need to get a membership for FenCon V. It's a full weekend of fun and fandom, too! Get all the details on our membership page.

NEW DATES: Due to circumstances beyond our immediate control, the weekend for FenCon V has been moved to October 3-5, 2008. We've signed our hotel contract for 2008 and and all of our announced guests have confirmed their attendance for the new dates. If you have already bought your 2008 membership and cannot attend on these dates, please e-mail us for information on getting a full refund. We apologize for the inconvenience.

FenCon V: Celebrating 50 years of SF conventions in Texas

Tom Smith

Sing along: FenCon IV Music Guest of Honor Tom Smith had such a good time at FenCon that he immortalized us in song. With Tom's kind permission, you can download The FenCon Song and enjoy it forever. Be sure to check out Tom Smith Online for more of Tom's fine work.

Pod people: FenCon's own Tim Miller was interviewed a while back by the nice folks at Escape From Cubicle 17 and you can download the whole podcast from their website.

FenCon is of the fen, by the fen, and for the fen.

North Texas Food Bank logo

Feed the world: FenCon's designated charity for 2007 was the North Texas Food Bank. Thanks to you, the fen, our charity auction and the limited-edition David Mattingly cover print raised $2000 for this most worthy cause.

Celebrating 25 years of service to the community, the NTFB passionately pursues a hunger-free community. Last year, the NTFB distributed 32 million pounds of food to 764 feeding and education programs in 13 North Texas counties. Please, give generously.
