FenCon XVII Announces Postponement until September 2021

Dallas— June 11, 2020 Dallas Future Society and the FenCon Executive Committee announce that after long discussions we have unanimously come to the difficult decision of POSTPONING FENCON XVII TO 2021. The new dates will be September 17-19, 2021.

All of our guests of honor have agreed to move with us into 2021.

This was not a decision made lightly or easily. We considered all of our options and feel this is the correct one.

a. Our primary concern is always with the health and safety of our members, guests, panelists, and staff. We don’t want to put anyone in the position of risking infection to attend what should be a fun event.

b. Airlines have drastically cut flights, and there is not a clear path for some of our guests or attendees to travel to the convention. International restrictions also affect our guests from Canada.

c. Remaining state restrictions of 50% capacity of hotel function space, including elevators and other areas where crowding typically occurs, makes it impossible for us to hold a quality event.

The Sheraton DFW will be cancelling any hotel reservations which our members have made and sending an email confirmation. Members are, of course, welcome to contact the hotel at any time to ensure cancellation.

All memberships, vendor tables, or art show space which have been purchased for 2020 will automatically be rolled over to 2021. If a refund is desired, please contact the convention by September 1, 2020. Members may refer to members@fencon.org

We are looking at options for holding a virtual or small event between now and next September in appreciation to our many supporters, and will keep our membership notified as those plans progress.

Our sincere thanks go to the management of the Sheraton DFW Airport hotel who have been wonderful to deal with in this eventful year. They are our convention home for at least the next two years, and we are excited to continue our great relationship with them! Thanks also goes to Lynn Armstrong at Experient for her wonderful assistance and expertise.

Thank you for all your support throughout the years. We hope you understand our decisions and will join us in 2021. Please check our web page www.fencon.org for more information.

Thank you and stay safe and well,

Rhonda and Sarah
